English Levels CEFR

What is CEFR?

The CEFR, or Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, is a widely recognized framework used to assess and describe language proficiency levels, including English. It provides a common scale that allows learners, teachers, employers, and institutions to understand and compare language abilities.

The CEFR divides language proficiency into six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. Each level represents a specific set of skills and knowledge.

  • A1 and A2 levels represent basic proficiency, where learners can understand and use simple expressions and phrases in familiar situations.

  • B1 and B2 levels indicate intermediate proficiency. At B1, learners can communicate in everyday situations and handle most common tasks. At B2, learners have a good command of the language and can participate in more complex conversations and tasks.

  • C1 and C2 levels represent advanced proficiency. At C1, learners can understand and express themselves fluently in a wide range of contexts. At C2, learners have near-native proficiency and can effectively use English in any situation.

The CEFR also outlines specific language skills, such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking, for each level. It helps learners set goals, track progress, and provides a standardized reference point for language education and assessment.
